CD Lights potential as a quality sire fosters a "can't wait" attitude similar to the feeling his owners had prior to his debut at the 2002 NCHA Futurity. Affectionately known as "Boss," from Day One, CD Lights was kind-natured and smart, with the potential to be a big winner. Both his sire, CD Olena, the 1994 NCHA Futurity and Derby Champion, and dam, Delight Of My Life, the 1997 NCHA Derby Champion, were trained and shown by Winston Hansma. This magical cross was host to a multitude of hopes and dreams, all of which Boss has more then fulfilled.
He tied for 14th at the 2002 NCHA Futurity and then went on to be a finalist in fourteen major limited aged events. His limited aged event Championships include the 2003 Brazos Bash Derby, marking a 227 to win the division by five and one-half points. He then marked 229 points, the highest score ever recorded at the Rocking K Arena, to win the 2003 Suncoast Fall 4-year-old open title by three points and was the 5 & 6 year old Champion at the Bonanza Cutting in 2005 with a 226.
Ridden from the start by his co-owner Winston Hansma, CD Lights went on to attain the title of 2006 NCHA World Champion Stallion, 2006 World Finals Open Champion and NCHA Open Reserve Champion. He was retired at the conclusion of the NCHA World Finals with a total LTE of $234,000. He completed his show career with the same consistent class and style with which it began, marking a score of 229 on an ideal run.
CD Lights first offspring competed at the 2008 Futurities. There was lots of excitement generated by this first limited foal crop. With just 4 performance aged foal crops, his performers have already earned in excess of $1,800,000! It seems that Boss is passing on the qualities that have made him so special. With a championship pedigree strong on early maturity, along with his handsome good looks and flawless conformation, CD Lights is destined to become a sire of exceptional merit.
